If You Could, Would You?

If you could fly and fall and never die,
Build glorious buildings to the sky,
Walk with gods in worlds only dreamed of
In the minds of those who see far beyond what is,
If you could live die and live again in a single moment,
To rise up and challenge your greatest fears over and over
Until triumphant you control all that is,

Would you?
We are beaten! The battle is over.

And though we take our children by the hand and say, “This is Earth. This is Ocean. This is Sunset. Here is our world built by God for you in all of its glory.” They will say, “Oh but look at this.” And they will walk with gods in worlds only dreamed of in the land of 0s and 1s and RAM and hard drives and soar far above what we have known. And to them “IT” will be “REAL.”

And yet some of us are sure that we can hold them, shelter them and make them believe otherwise. But we are too late. Just look at us already. Just look at yourself in the mirror of your phone.

We are beaten! The battle is over!

And so, I think I will go play video games with my son and walk with the gods in worlds only dreamed of in the land of 0s and 1s and RAM and hard drives and soar far above what I have known and ever dreamed possible.

But I cannot forget this Earth, this Ocean, this Sunset. And I will bring my son here often and show him to remind him of whence we came.
